Texas - Abilene State Park

On November 3rd we came to Abilene State Park.  We are camped under various kinds of trees, some being oak trees that lose their acorns and sound like hail on the motor home roof.   Others are cedar trees and trees we don't know the names of  and some trees are losing their leaves but others like the Live Oak even being a deciduous tree retain their leaves all year long.

There are several deer in the park and they roam through or by our campsite daily.

Just down from our campsite are 5 yurts which can be rented.  They have a bunk bed, double on the bottom and single over, a futon, fridge, stove and microwave but no toilet facilities.  The communal bathrooms and showers are spacious and well looked after.

The park is very well maintained and there is a swimming pool, concession stand and open grounds for events held by the park.

these facilities were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1935

We walked over to the bird blind last evening and were lucky enough to see several male and female cardinals at the feeders and water stations.
We have also noticed the ground being dug up in places and found out this morning that there are feral hogs in the neighborhood.  We haven't seen any and I hope the ones we do see are at a distance!

One day we went into Buffalo Gap, the town closest to this park and visited the Buffalo Gap Historical Museum.  Very friendly folk run it and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.  We even had coffee at the museum.  I have to include some pics of things that brought back memories of my first school years.

We have been in 4 different campsites since getting here and we are fortunate enough this morning to get one with power/water/sewer.  We are paid up until Monday, November 12th and then will decide what we will do next.

We unfortunately have been having engine problems (loss of power).  We can pretty much tell you the hill in Oklahoma that it happened on!  We are just waiting to get into a garage to assess the repairs that we will need.  Oh well, we will deal with whatever it is when the time comes.

This morning, November 9th, Clark and I went into Buffalo Gap and had coffee and Navajo fry bread with honey in a quaint little restaurant, named Lola's ($4.00 for both of us) .  We talked to four hunters and then chatted up the owner, Lola and her friend.  All in all we were there for about an hour and a half.  Good times!
